Research Engineer (Medical Device Innovation Cluster)

BIGHEART has a dedicated translational arm – Medical Device Innovation Cluster (MEDIC) – to facilitate the translation of innovative technologies from bench to bedside and market. MEDIC supports the entire process from identifying potential technologies, to prototyping and first-in-man clinical tests, and finally to regulatory approval, large-scale trials, scaled-up manufacturing and commercialisation.

Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and self-motivated research engineer to join our team to work on translational and commercialisation activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with different teams to translate research-driven technology into products
Design customised products for different medical applications
Develop and execute proof-of-concept studies or pilot trials
Perform design for manufacturability / usability / reliability
Communicate with manufacturing vendors on scalable production
Present research technology to potential collaborators and investors
Assist in technology related workshops, seminars and conferences, and other ad hoc tasks that may be assigned in the course of duty

The successful candidate would be expected to be part of the translational team within a collaborative interdisciplinary environment. The appointment would start as soon as possible.

Requirements:

At least a Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, engineering or equivalent from a reputable university
Inquisitive and have initiative in exploring new technology
Ability to work independently to design, execute, and interpret data
Excellent communication skills and a good team player
Experience with medical device development and product commercialisation is preferred

Management Assistant Officer (Temp Position)

Job Description

The jobholder will provide general office administrative support to the Biomedical Institute for Global Health Research & Technology (BIGHEART).

Key Responsibilities:

General Office Administration

Assist in day-to-day office operation and administration matters
Perform front desk duties when required
Organize and schedule meeting appointments
Distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms
Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports
Develop and maintain a filing system
Order office supplies
Maintain contact lists
Provide general support to visitors
Assist in organising meetings, seminars, booking venues, preparing refreshments, reserving hotel accommodation and making transportation arrangement

Grant Administration

Provide administrative support in preparing pre-award paperwork for grant submissions; and post-award monitoring of internal and externally funded grants, contracts and agreements
Assist in post-award account maintenance, expenditure reporting and maintenance of grant records in compliance with university policies

A Supporting Role in Finance

Assist in timely and accurate processing of invoices, billings and reimbursement of claims
Manage office inventory, fixed assets and procurement
Source for quotations and liaise with vendors
Ensure compliance with NUS finance guidelines when performing the above duties

Willing to take on ad-hoc duties as may be required

Requirements
Pleasant and mature
Well organised
Proven experience as an administrative assistant or office administrative assistant
Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines
Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)
Attention to detail and problem solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task
Familiarity with SAP R/3 and government procurement systems would be an added advantage

Laboratory Manager (Full-time)

Job Description

You will work as an integral part of the research institute, overseeing the research operations, as well as taking on a range of administrative duties, including but not limited to, research facility management, safety, budgeting and procurement matters and carrying out specific projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with the senior management, conduct overall laboratory planning, management, laboratory safety and security and regulatory compliance
◙ Ensure smooth laboratory operations, liaise with finance department and PIs for timely procurement of equipment and relevant research supplies
◙ Oversee maintenance and repairs of common shared research equipment and facilities as well as oversee maintenance vendors
◙ Organize and provide basic safety training to staff, students and users of the lab as needed
◙ Assist in laboratory commissioning and decommissioning
◙ Assist in asset management of equipment under the responsibility of BIGHEART
◙ Other ad hoc duties which may be assigned

Requirements
◙ At least a Master’s Degree in life sciences, engineering or their equivalent from a reputable university
◙ Have at least three years’ working experience in laboratory management
◙ Able to communicate well and convey information clearly

Research Fellows: Laser-driven Optofluidics

Research Fellow: Cyber-Physical Systems

We are looking for highly talented and motivated candidates to work on developing explainable machine learning models for analyzing sensor-driven healthcare data. The project will leverage deep learning and other machine learning techniques to (1) support accurate logging of lifestyle behaviours, (2) recommend healthy behaviours and provide context-aware interventions, and (3) providing decision support to clinicians to improve disease diagnosis.

Qualifications & requirements:

◙ Expertise in ubiquitous computing, human-computer interaction, machine learning, novel sensors, and data visualization is highly desirable
