National University of Singapore (NUS) BIGHEART (Biomedical Institute for Global Health Research and Technology) aims to create innovative science and technology convergence for quantitative life sciences and precision engineering medicine, which will transform global health with economic and societal impact for communities both locally and globally.
BIGHEART conducts collaborative and interdisciplinary research, addressing the technical barriers preventing distributed healthcare solutions in both developed and developing countries, including remote and resource poor settings. By establishing an effective environment for fundamental scientific inquiry and practical implementation of solutions at the interface of chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, and medicine, we cultivate critical insights into global healthcare obstacles. Through innovative health technology development and educational outreach, BIGHEART researchers establish deep and systematic understanding of disease biophysics, physiological conditions, environmental constraints, and the role of novel and highly integrated biotechnology (BT), nanotechnology (NT), and information technology (IT) in global health settings.
Research and education in:
- Quantum biology
- Quantum biophotonics
- Pathogenesis in silicone
